This Privacy Policy describes how Emre İnan ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with your use of our mobile application, LinguaLeap (the "App").
We collect information to provide and improve our services, including:
Email Address & Authentication Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication details (such as a hashed password or authentication tokens from Google Sign-In) to create and secure your account.
Display Name & Extended Profile Data: We collect the username you choose, which identifies you on public leaderboards and community features. You may also voluntarily provide extended profile data (such as a biography, native language, learning goals, occupation, education, and links to your third-party social media profiles). If provided, this information is displayed publicly on your profile.
Profile Photos: If you choose to upload a custom profile picture, we store this image to display on your profile, in leaderboards, and to other users.
User Generated Content & Challenges: We store text messages you exchange with friends via in-app chat, your friend list, and challenge history. Furthermore, if you create or participate in a "Global Challenge", your profile information and your specific quiz score for that match become publicly visible to the entire app community.
Push Notification Tokens: We collect and store device tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens) to send you push notifications regarding new chat messages, friend requests, and challenge updates.
Quiz Performance Data: We store your quiz scores and progress for different language pairs and durations to provide you with your high score reports and to rank you on leaderboards.
Usage and Analytics Data: We use Google Analytics for Firebase to collect data about how you interact with the App. This includes information like which screens you visit, which buttons you tap, session duration, and general device information (e.g., device model, OS version). This helps us understand what features are popular and how to improve the user experience.
Crash and Performance Data: We use Firebase Crashlytics to automatically collect crash reports and performance data. This helps us identify and fix bugs, and to monitor the stability of the App.
LinguaLeap includes features that allow users to upload profile photos and exchange text messages. To enforce our Terms of Service and maintain a safe community, we process this data as follows:
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
We use the following third-party services which may collect information as described in their own privacy policies:
Google Play Services: Used for core application services on Android.
Firebase (a Google service): We use multiple Firebase services including Authentication, Firestore (database), Cloud Functions, Storage, Crashlytics, and Analytics. Link to Google's Privacy Policy.
Google Cloud Vision API: We use this service to automatically scan uploaded profile photos for inappropriate content to ensure community safety.
Google AdMob: We use AdMob to display advertisements within the App. AdMob may collect and use data to provide personalized ads. You can learn more here: How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps.
You have the right to request the deletion of your account and its associated data at any time. You can initiate this process from the "Delete Account" option within the App's Settings screen.
When you request account deletion, the following data is permanently removed from our live systems:

User Generated Content: Your chat history, friend list, and challenge history are permanently deleted.
Quiz and Score Data: All of your high scores, session history, and progress data for all language pairs and quiz durations stored in our Firestore database are deleted.
Leaderboard Entries: Your username and scores are removed from all leaderboards.
Certain data may be retained in an aggregated and anonymized form after your account has been deleted. This data cannot be linked back to you personally. This includes:
Aggregated Analytics: Anonymized app usage and interaction data (e.g., which features are used most often) collected by Google Analytics for Firebase is retained for statistical analysis and service improvement.
Anonymized Performance Data: Anonymized crash logs and performance metrics from Firebase Crashlytics are retained to ensure the stability of the App.
Fraud Prevention Data: A one-way cryptographic hash of your email address is retained securely to prevent abuse of our referral and promotional systems. This hash cannot be reverse-engineered to reveal your actual email address and is used strictly for security and anti-fraud purposes.
Upon your confirmation, the deletion of your data from our live production systems is initiated immediately. Due to the nature of our secure backup systems, your data may persist in encrypted backup archives for up to 90 days before being permanently and irretrievably erased.
